This town hall aims to provide a panel of researchers who are experts in their respective fields to share their experiences and insight into the skills that are oftentimes not taught through traditional classroom instruction.

Join AGU science policy staff for an engaging workshop on the skills you will need to have an impact on policy. You will leave with a personalized plan that sets a clear path forward. Grounded in research and strategy, we will use a solutions room format, we will dive into authentic examples of conflict to create a framework for understanding conflict, its impact and impactful strategies for resolution.

This town hall will discuss ways Early Career and Students can receive more professional support from the global societies in terms of mentoring, connections to key scientific communities, and acquiring more experience to prepare them for their respective fields.

If you’re a student or just started your career, connect with peers in your scientific field. You will also have the opportunity to meet notable scientific minds, make friends and connections that will advance you through your scientific career.

Students and early-career scientists from the sections of Earth's Deep Interior (SEDI); Planetary Science (PS); Volcanology, Geochemistry, and Petrology (VGP); Mineral and Rock Physics (MRP); Seismology (S)' Tectonophysics (T); Geodesy (G); and Natural Hazards (NH) are all welcome. This is a great opportunity to network!! The tickets are for $5 students and $15 others, including food and 1 drink. You can see the event listed when you register for #AGU24 and add it to your cart. Get to know AGU leaders and learn about the importance of mentorship from recent early career awardees. The James B. Macelwane Early Student and Early Career Networking Breakfast will provide an opportunity to interact with AGU Fellows, past and present Macelwane Medalists, and other mentors. Breakfast will be provided.

In this workshop, you’ll learn how to manage, publish, and share your data and code and get credit for them as important research outputs alongside your publication.

This interactive session will address how to become a constructive and concise reviewer in the peer-review process. The session will be geared toward early career researchers and will expand upon important knowledge such as how to get started as a reviewer and basic review principles.

This interactive session will dive into the author's experience and teach beginners the tools for writing a good paper, including drafting an outline, composing a clear plain language summary, and making figures accessible for more readers.
