About East-West Center

Established by the United States Congress in 1960 to promote mutual understanding and cooperation among the governments and peoples of the Asia-Pacific region including the United States, the East-West Center seeks to foster the development of an Asia-Pacific community through cooperative study, training, and research. Center activities focus on the promotion of shared regional values and the building of regional agencies and arrangements; the promotion of economic growth with equity, stability, and sustainability; and the management and resolution of critical regional as well as common national-level political, economic, and social problems. Issues addressed at the Center must have direct relevance for US-Asia-Pacific understanding and relations.
