The vast petroleum and mineral resources of the Kingdom pose a complex and exciting challenge for earth scientists. To meet this challenge, KFUPM has established the Earth Sciences Department to graduate professional geoscientists who can contribute effectively to the leadership and service in the Kingdom’s petroleum and mineral industries. The Department has a 50-year tradition of excellence in undergraduate & graduate education, and research. We offer Bachelor degrees in Geology and Geophysics and Master's degrees in Geology, Geophysics and Environmental Sciences and also offer PhD degree in Geology. Our undergraduate programs are accredited by the Geological Society of London (GSL). The practical emphasis and comprehensive content of our graduate programs attract students of all backgrounds from Saudi Arabia and overseas. Our students have achieved international awards such as the Imperial Barrel Award, the SEG Challenge Bowl, and many of our alumni are highly placed in the local industries and government agencies. The Department has a variety of teaching and research laboratories. Our proximity to Saudi Aramco, Schlumberger, Weatherford, CGG, and Baker Hughes provides additional opportunities for collaborative research. Our Department has established a collaborative link with Stanford University that includes funding opportunities and joint field trips. The Department provides a supportive atmosphere for conducting independent research.
