Solid Earth Geophysics and Geodesy at University of Tasmania (UTAS) is a clustering of world-renowned scientists joined together by our research within, and across, the fields of Sea Level · Seismology · Geodesy · Earthquakes · Extreme Events · Solid Earth Dynamics · Climate Change · Earth-ocean Interactions · Ice Sheets · Paleoclimate · Tectonic Evolution We publish our work in internationally leading peer-reviewed scientific journals, including in the prestigious journals Nature and Science. We receive substantial funding from the Australian Research Council, the Australian Antarctic Division and national research infrastructure programmes like IMOS and AuScope. Our research collaborations include international scientists within leading Australian and international universities and research institutes. We pride ourselves on a cohesive research environment where PhD students and postdocs interact daily with leading academics so we can learn from each other. We also (mostly) like good coffee. We seek to advance our understanding of the physical Earth system to generate new knowledge, provide leading information to industry and inform government policy. We particularly benefit from close cooperation between UTAS, CSIRO Marine & Atmospheric Research and the Australian Antarctic Division, all located within a few minutes of us at the UTAS Sandy Bay campus.
