Faculty Positions at the University of Houston
The Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Houston invites
applicants for the following tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant Professor
level. Candidates must have completed their PhD at the time of appointment. Successful
candidates will be expected to build a vigorous externally funded research program and
should be able to demonstrate productivity via peer-reviewed publications. Candidates
will also be expected to teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and
mentor MS and PhD students. Candidate evaluation will begin on December 1, 2015 and
continue until each position is filled.
Rock Physics
Assistant Professor in the field of Experimental Rock Physics. The ideal candidate will
have expertise in the measurement, theory, and interpretation of physical rock
properties. Candidates will be selected by their ability to conduct transformative
research in rock physics, attract funding, and contribute to outstanding teaching and
mentoring. Experience in experimental petrophysics, well log analysis, and reservoir
evaluation is preferred. The successful candidate would be a collaborator in the UH Rock
Physics Consortium, the Allied Geophysical Laboratory, and other research groups and
have access to a full range of teaching and research facilities within the Department and
University including robotic, high-temperature, and high-pressure labs.
Atmospheric Sciences
Assistant Professor in the field of Atmospheric Chemistry and/or Climate. The
atmospheric science group at UH operates an air quality network around Houston with
continuous year round measurements. They also operate a well-equipped state-of-theart
mobile laboratory to study emissions, photochemistry, and greenhouse gases. The
group also conducts research using satellite-based information and modeling on
regional and global scales.
