Research Associate and Lecturer Position in Rock Mechanics - Laboratory Testing
Research Associate and Lecturer Position in Rock Mechanics – Laboratory Testing
The Chair of Engineering Geology at the ETH Zurich is looking for a senior research associate and lecturer in Rock Mechanics and Laboratory Testing. An appointment at the junior (Postdoc) research associate level could be considered as an alternative. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in earth sciences, geotechnical engineering or related field. Knowledge and demonstrated experience of rock and fracture mechanics and laboratory testing are of prime importance. Demonstrated interest in engineering geology and tunneling are desired.
The candidate will be expected (1) to teach one to two classes in the field of rock mechanics, lab testing of rocks and soils, and/or tunneling, (2) to develop funded research programs addressing mechanial processes in fractured rocks, (3) to supervise graduate students and their thesis work, and (4) support students in the use of our rock and soil mechanical lab testing equipment.
This ETH staff position with an attractive salary according to ETH standards and cutting edge lab (and field) testing equipment can be filled by the successful candidate in summer or fall 2017 for a period of up to 6 years. The Chair of Engineering Geology is a multidisciplinary research and teaching unit devoted primarily to the study of fundamental hydro-mechanical and thermo-mechanical processes in fractured rocks in the uppermost kilometers of the earth’s crust and the corresponding applications – such as deep underground constructions, deep geothermal energy and nuclear waste disposal. Further information about the Chair of Engineering Geology is available at our Web Site www.engineering-geology.ethz.ch. Questions related to the open position can be addressed to Dr. Kerry Leith, Engineering Geology, ETH Zuerich (e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org).
Please send your complete application per regular mail or e-mail, including cover letter, curriculum vitae with full personal and career details, and a detailed statement of research interests to ETH Zurich, Prof. Dr. Simon Loew, Engineering Geology, Sonneggstrasse 5, CH-8092 Zurich, Switzerland (ref. AD_OA4_17). Applications should be submitted until end of April 2017, but are accepted until the position is filled.
