The School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology (SOEST) was established at the University of Hawaii at Manoa to promote excellence in interdisciplinary research and undergraduate/graduate education in marine, atmospheric and geological sciences.  The Department of Oceanography within SOEST is inviting applications for an 11-month, 100% FTE with State funding for 9-months, tenure-track faculty position in Biological Oceanography at the rank of Associate Professor.  We seek an individual with interests and research experience in the fields of microbial oceanography and biogeochemistry, and the ability to lead the Hawaii Ocean Time-series (HOT) program, a long-term oceanographic observation program at Station ALOHA that was established in 1988. The successful candidate will also develop outstanding teaching/educational programs, including classroom instruction and contributions to both the graduate Oceanography and undergraduate Global Environmental Science programs.  Applicants must have a Ph.D. in oceanography, marine biology, or other relevant discipline with at least 4 years experience at the Assistant Professor level or equivalent; excellent communication skills; demonstrated capability for creative, high-quality research; and the ability to contribute to teaching and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students.  To apply, please submit a single electronic file (in pdf format) containing a cover letter, vita, statement of research and teaching interests, three representative publications, and the names and contact information for at least three references to ocnsrch@soest.hawaii.edu.

Questions should be directed to David Karl, chair of the search committee (dkarl@hawaii.edu). More information about the Department can be found at www.soest.hawaii.edu/oceanography.

Review of applications will begin on 1 May 2017, and will continue until the position has been filled.  The complete vacancy announcement can be found at http://workatuh.hawaii.edu
