Lab Manager at the University of Rochester ice core lab
The University of Rochester Ice Core Laboratory has an opening for a lab manager. Our work uses ice cores from Greenland and Antarctica to study past climate and atmospheric composition, with projects focused both on natural and human-caused changes. We regularly conduct ice core drilling expeditions in the polar regions, working both in the extreme frozen interiors of the major ice sheets as well as on their picturesque margins. The successful candidate will be responsible for a range of tasks necessary for the operation of the ice core laboratory, such as sample processing, development of new analytical systems / methods, maintenance of analytical equipment as well as the walk-in freezer, purchasing of equipment and shipping of samples and field equipment. There will also be an opportunity to participate in polar field expeditions. Salary will be determined based on the successful candidate’s qualifications.
