The Environmental Geochemistry and Oceanography research group at the University of Hong Kong invites applications for a PhD-student position in paleoceanography, environmental oceanography or biogeochemistry.

The precise subject of the thesis will be decided upon agreement between the candidate and the supervisor and will depend on the candidate interests and strengths and the research interest of the group, which include paleoceanography, trace element in marine carbonates, nitrogen cycle (past and present) and marine pollution.

We encourage applications from enthusiastic and self-motivated students who have demonstrated academic and research excellence in environmental or earth sciences, chemistry, or a related quantitative discipline. Applicants should have a 1st class honours degree or a 2.1 honours degree plus Master's (or equivalent). Experience in geochemistry and/or mass spectrometry is considered an asset.

Successful applicants will be supported in their application to the Hong Kong Ph.D. Fellowship Scheme (HKPF) and will have the chance to join the University of Hong Kong, ranked 27th in the field of Earth and Marine Sciences by the 2017 QS World University Subject Ranking. Today, HKU is recognized internationally as a dynamic and comprehensive university of world-class standing.
