Tenure-track Faculty position in mineral deposit geology
The tenure-track Faculty position is associated with the NSERC-Agnico Eagle Industrial Research Chair in Mineral Exploration, the main objective of which is to develop mineral exploration methodologies using the physical and chemical properties of indicator minerals. Mineral exploration is also a research theme of the Centre for the Geology and Engineering of Mineral Resources (E4m). Sustainable and responsible development of natural resources is a strategic axis of development for Université Laval.
Description of position
Tenure-track faculty position ;
Contribute to the research activities of the Chair ;
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in mineral deposit geology and metallogeny;
Develop and secure external funding for a high quality research program in the field of mineral deposit geology and metallogeny
Supervise and coordinate graduate student research in the field of mineral deposit geology ;
Assume an active role within the department by contributing to internal administrative tasks that are often beyond normal teaching and research duties;
The selected candidate will have a solid expertise in Earth Sciences, including the fields of mineral deposit geology and metallogeny. Expertise in mineral chemistry, in particular in situ analytical methods, is also desirable.
Furthermore, the selected candidate will have to meet the following criteria:
Have been awarded an undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in geology, geological engineering or in a related field, and a doctoral degree in a field that is appropriate to the position;
Demonstrate the ability to develop, fund and manage a high-quality and high-impact research program;
Provide evidence of ability to collaborate within multi-disciplinary research teams and networks and demonstrate a positive contribution to these research entities;
Provide evidence of being skilled in the development of high-quality course material using rich and engaging content for regular and continuing education;
Demonstrate strong communication skills by clearly communicating the results and impact of relevant research achievements;
Provide evidence of excellent teaching abilities in the domain;
Demonstrate a good working competency in the French language (written and oral) or provide a concise plan to reach this level within one year;
Be a member in good standing with the Ordre des géologues du Québec or the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec. The selected candidate will otherwise be required to provide a concise plan to meet this requirement within a period of time which cannot exceed the initial contract.
