Faculty Positions (Climate Change)

Founded in 1991, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is a world renowned international research university in Asia’s most vibrant city.  The University comprises around 600 faculty members whose research ranges from science to engineering, business, humanities and social sciences.  It promotes interdisciplinary studies, dedicated to educating all-rounded students to acquire a strong entrepreneurial spirit and innovative thinking with a global outlook.  HKUST has been ranked Asia’s No.1 and the 2nd worldwide in the Times Higher Education Young University Rankings in 2017, the 13th worldwide and No.1 in Greater China in the Global Employability University Ranking in 2016, and the 30th in the latest QS World University Rankings.  English is the medium of teaching, research and administration.

The University is conducting a clustered hiring campaign aimed at advancing the University’s academic strengths in selected cross-disciplinary areas that are strategically important to HKUST’s future development.  In response to the growing economic and social need to ensure global sustainable development, we are seeking renowned scholars, academics, leaders or potential leaders to enforce our faculty strength in the core cross-disciplinary area of Sustainability.

There are a number of joint faculty positions immediately available in research areas related to climate change impact and adaptation, and regional climate change modeling.  Applications are now invited for substantiation-track faculty positions at all levels of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor.  Applicants should have a PhD in related field with demonstrated abilities in both cutting-edge research and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.  Preference will be given to those with expertise in the research areas of (a) Urban and regional planning, and (b) Climate change modeling.  Since sustainability development is a highly interdisciplinary research field, it is expected that successful candidates will be jointly appointed by more than one academic Department/Division.

Salary is highly competitive and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits.  Housing benefits will also be provided where applicable.  Appointment for Professor will be on substantive basis.  Initial appointment for Assistant Professor/Associate Professor will normally be on a three-year contract, renewable subject to mutual agreement.  A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.

Application Procedure
Interested candidates are invited to send (i) full curriculum vitae; (ii) a statement of current research interest; (iii) a teaching portfolio with student evaluations, if available; and (iv) three letters of recommendation to the attention of the Chair of the University Search Committee for Sustainability, by email to SusDevSearch@ust.hk.  Review of applications will begin immediately and applications will be accepted until the positions are filled.
