Postdoctoral Research Associate
Salary: £36,800 - £44,220 p.a.
Maximum salary on appointment will be £38,730 p.a.
Fixed term appointment for 12 Months
Campus: South Kensington
Applications are invited for a Research Associate (i.e. postdoctoral researcher) to join an interdisciplinary effort in evaluating the potential for CO2 storage to contribute in decarbonizing the UK energy system. The position will be within the research groups of Dr. Sam Krevor (http://www.krevorlab.com) and Professor Robert Zimmerman in the Department of Earth Science and Engineering at Imperial College London. The research groups focus on problems of subsurface fluid flow and chemical reaction with geologic strata in application to CO2 storage, petroleum engineering, groundwater resources and hydrogeology. The groups are a diverse collection of approximately 10 researchers apiece (PhD students and postdocs) with a wide range of backgrounds and experience in Earth Science and Engineering.
Research will focus on the analysis of limitations to large scale CO2 storage deployment in regional storage reservoir resources in the offshore United Kingdom. There is an emphasis on implementing the use of simplified models of subsurface CO2 injection in conjunction with techno-economic models of the UK energy system that estimate the demand for storage. The research position is funded through the EPSRC MESMERISE-CCS and the UK CCS Research Centre core research projects. The researcher will work closely with energy systems modellers in the MESMERISE and UKCCSRC projects as well as a stakeholder committee with members from industry and government forwarding CCS in the UK. Funding is available for 24 months with a starting date as soon as the candidate is ready but no later than January 2018.
You must have a good undergraduate degree/ MSc in Earth Science and Engineering (or equivalent) for appointment at Research Assistant level and a PhD in Earth Science, Petroleum Engineering, Civil Engineering, Applied Mathematics (or equivalent) for appointment at Research Associate level
*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range £32,380 – £34,040 per annum.
