Assistant / Associate Professor
The Department of Geographical Sciences at the University of Maryland (College Park) invites applications for up to two positions at the tenure-track rank of Assistant Professor or the tenured rank of Associate Professor in the area of Remote Sensing with knowledge in some aspect of Earth System Science. These positions are part of a new Center of Excellence in Remote Sensing which will strengthen our reputation in this area of interdisciplinary research. These positions will have their tenure home in Geographical Sciences and are expected to start in August 2018, or earlier if the candidate(s) are available. Salary and benefits are highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. A Ph.D. degree in Geography, Remote Sensing, or a related discipline is required at the time of appointment. We are seeking candidates with a track record of publications, awarded grants, and teaching experience appropriate to rank.
Successful candidates are expected to conduct research at the leading edge of Remote Sensing and have experience in the application of the technology to Earth System Science or an area of societal benefit. We especially encourage applications from candidates with a background in SAR and POLInSAR remote sensing, although all backgrounds will be considered. Example areas of interest in Earth System Science include: Coastal Zone Systems, Terrestrial Ecology, Hydrology, and Land Use Change, among others. Example areas of Societal Benefit include: Natural Hazards, Agriculture, and Water Resources among others. The candidate should be capable of teaching in our Remote Sensing and Earth System Science programs.
