Research Space Scientist - Data Scientist
The Science & Exploration Directorate, Solar System Exploration Division, Solar System Exploration Data Services Office (Code 690.1) is seeking a scientist to support the Planetary Data System (PDS) Project Office located at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC). This individual will be a key member of a small team providing oversight and leadership of the PDS that provides a distributed archive of data products from planetary missions. NASA’s PDS consists of multiple science and engineering nodes that enable data archiving from planetary missions to ensure the long-term usability of NASA data and to stimulate advanced research. Actively interact with planetary geologists, atmospheres scientists, asteroid and comet scientists, space physicists and members of NASA planetary mission teams.
The applicant will conduct research utilizing data archived in PDS data holdings, and participate in planetary data projects. This research may include; big data research and techniques as applied to data from asteroids and comets; utilization of data from all PDS nodes, including the Minor Planet Center to conduct research, and utilization of data from the PDS archive of other nodes to study solar system planets and satellites, their surfaces, exospheres, and/or the solar wind.
