The Department of Geological Sciences at the University of Manitoba invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning as early as January 1, 2019 in the general area of Economic Geology. We especially welcome applicants with research interests in Precambrian metallogeny (base and precious metals), and experience in field and analytical techniques applied to mineral exploration. Past work experience or collaborative research experience with the exploration and mining industry will be considered an asset. Particular attention will be given to candidates that complement on-going research and teaching activities in the Department. Qualified applicants must have a proven record of excellence in research and the potential for excellence in teaching. The successful applicant will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in mineral deposits and exploration geochemistry, and establish an internationally recognized, externally funded research program. Additional teaching may include courses in introductory geology, structural geology and field school.

The Department of Geological Sciences, housed on the banks of the Red River, provides an exciting environment for teaching and research. The Department is home to 12 tenured and tenure-track faculty members in the Clayton H. Riddell Faculty of Environment, Earth, and Resources, and offers a range of undergraduate and graduate programs in Geology and Geophysics. It has a well-established national and international research reputation with strengths in mineralogy, geochemistry, sedimentology, paleontology, geophysics, and environmental geosciences. The department has over $10 million of equipment housed in major, multi-user laboratories.
