We are seeking a staff scientist to work in the general area of the physical and chemical evolution of the interstellar medium (ISM), and in particular its connection with the formation of protostellar disks, planets, and their characteristics in the solar system and elsewhere. In view of the interest in questions such as the formation and processing of water in the ISM, its incorporation into protostellar and protoplanetary disks, and the origin of the Earth’s water, JPL anticipates a significant research program in this area, and desires to advance the capabilities we have been developing.

We require a Ph.D. in astrophysics, planetary science, or related discipline with typically a minimum of five years related experience.  We will also consider promising scientists at an earlier stage.

Additional requirements include:

(1) have an international reputation,

(2) can lead major instrument proposals at millimeter through far-infrared wavelengths,

(3) will develop an observational program using existing and upcoming NASA facilities such as SOFIA and JWST, and

(4) have a record of high-impact peer-reviewed publications in astrophysics, planetary science, or related discipline.
