Tenure Track Faculty Member, Atmospheric and Climate Physics

The Department of Physics and Engineering Physics, University of Saskatchewan, is actively seeking applications from qualified female candidates for a full-time tenure-track faculty position in Atmospheric and Climate Physics at the rank of Assistant Professor commencing 1 July 2019. The search process will be guided by the strong commitment of the University of Saskatchewan, College of Arts and Science, and Department of Physics and Engineering Physics to academic excellence and employment equity.

The successful candidate would conduct atmospheric and climate physics research with a focus on synergistic measurement/model studies of atmospheric composition, variability, and circulation, and their impacts on climate. The successful candidate is expected to develop a vigorous externally-funded research program. The candidate will participate in teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Applicants should demonstrate promise for excellence in teaching, graduate student supervision, and potential for securing competitive external research funding. Applicants must have a Ph.D. and post-doctoral experience in a relevant field with an established record of research excellence.

The Institute of Space and Atmospheric Science (ISAS), with its six Physics & Engineering Physics faculty members, is the largest and most comprehensive Solar-Terrestrial Physics and Atmospheric Science Institute in Canada. Two atmospheric physics faculty in ISAS currently focus on atmospheric remote sensing with instrumentation on satellites, aircraft, and high-altitude balloon platforms, providing collaborative opportunities for the successful candidate.  Other collaborative opportunities exist through the University of Saskatchewan’s membership in the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR), within the Global Institute for Water Security, and the School for Environment and Sustainability.  

The Department of Physics and Engineering Physics is a diverse department of currently 22 faculty members (including three Canada Research Chairs and 9 professional engineers), and over 60 graduate students. The department has experimental and theoretical research strengths in Plasma Physics, Space and Atmospheric Studies, Condensed Matter Physics, Material Science, and Subatomic Physics.  The department is responsible for undergraduate programs in Physics (B.Sc.), an accredited Engineering Physics program (B.E.), supports an interdisciplinary program in Mathematical Physics (B.Sc.), and offers thesis-based M.Sc. and Ph.D. graduate programs in Physics & Engineering Physics.

The College of Arts & Science offers a dynamic combination of programs in the sciences, social sciences, humanities, and fine arts.  There are over 10,000 students in the College and 295 faculty, including 12 Canada Research Chairs.  The College emphasizes student and faculty research, interdisciplinary programs, community outreach and international opportunities.

Salary bands for this position are as follows: Assistant Professor: $93,293 to $112,109; Associate Professor: $112,109 to 130,925 and Professor $130,925 to $152,877.  We expect to appoint at the rank of Assistant Professor.
