Professor of Water Resources and Gas Development

Centre for Coal Seam Gas

Australia's onshore natural gas industry has expanded rapidly with the establishment of a new Coal Seam Gas-Liquefied Natural Gas industry in Queensland. In this evolving environment, The University of Queensland recognised a need for a coordinated access point to address the community, government and industry challenges.

The Centre for Coal Seam Gas (CCSG) was established in December 2011 to conduct and support research and education within onshore gas, creating a scientific energy platform.

The Centre conducts research and supports education in key discipline areas including economics, business, petroleum engineering, geosciences, water, ecology and social sciences. The Centre also provides independent advice to industry and government on policy or business-relevant matters, leadership on scientific and technical issues as well as strategic planning.

For more Information about the Centre, please visit: https://ccsg.centre.uq.edu.au

The role:

The successful candidate will collaborate with the Centre Director and the Centre’s other professorial Chairs to develop Centre strategy and manage an integrated research program across the full suite of research priorities. The successful candidate will manage and continue to develop a world-class applied research program on the impacts of unconventional and coal seam gas (CSG) extraction on groundwater and surface water resources; including the social, environmental and economic aspects of these impacts, their risks and the development of adaptive management strategies with industry. They will provide strong leadership for research staff and ensure international level education for postgraduate students in the UQ-CCSG, and those from other UQ schools and centres, particularly those who are engaged in Centre-funded research.

The person:

Applicants should possess a PhD in a discipline related to water or environmental science. You should have significant experience and a successful record of achievements in applied research in the Coal Seam Gas or Petroleum industry with demonstrated high quality outputs. Strong leadership and project management skills are also required.

The position is continuing, full time at Academic Level D or E[HS1] . The remuneration package will be in the range $135,909 - $149,731 p.a. for Academic Level D or $175,070 p.a. for Academic Level E, plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $159,014 - $175,185 p.a. for Level D or $204,832.57 p.a. for Level E).
