Associate Research Scientist position in Geochemistry, Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University

An Associate Research Scientist position is available commencing on, or after, January 1, 2019 at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University in the division of Geochemistry to study transition metal isotopic fractionation in low temperature geochemistry, biogeochemistry and biochemistry. Basic responsibilities include development of trace metal separation methods and thermal ionization mass spectrometry and / or multiple collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry and applying these methods to a variety of low temperature processes and archives.  The Associate Research Scientist will mentor students and junior scientists and write scientific papers and grant proposals to develop novel research in the field of isotope chemistry.

Requirements:  We seek a highly motivated scientist with at least three years of relevant employment experience after having been awarded a Ph.D. in the Earth Sciences. Considerable experience with trace metal separation methods, thermal ionization mass spectrometry and / or multiple collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry is an essential requirement.  Candidates are expected to have established their ability to conduct original, independent scientific research, to work well in a team, and to communicate the results of their research or research activities effectively both orally and in writing, with a record of publications in scientific literature.

Academic appointments are eligible for renewal annually in alignment with our new fiscal year and contingent upon performance and funding availability.
