Joint Institute for Marine & Atmospheric Research. Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology (SOEST), Joint Institute for Marine & Atmospheric Research (JIMAR), located in Honolulu, Hawai‘i. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.
MONTHLY SALARY: Salary commensurate with qualifications.
DUTIES: Performs research on the dynamics and statistics of sea level and/or total water level variability as part of the University of Hawai‘i Sea Level Center (UHSLC) project. Authors peer-reviewed journal articles and presents results at scientific meetings. The expertise and interests of the successful candidate will govern specific research topics, but desired areas of focus include the dynamics and predictability of inter-annual to decadal regional sea level change, the impact of waves and nearshore dynamics on coastal water level, and the impact of sea level rise on the statistics of sea level and total water level extremes.
PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/TRAINING: PhD from an accredited college or university in Physical Oceanography, Meteorology, Geophysics or a related field of study. EXPERIENCE: Up to three (0-3) years of experience with statistical analysis of geophysical datasets. Experience working with general circulation or coastal ocean models. ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS: Extensive knowledge of Matlab or Python for data analysis. Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing. SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS: Previous authorship of publications in a related field of study. Knowledge of physical oceanography and numerical methods. Data management skills.
