The Environmental Geochemistry and Oceanography research group at the University of Hong Kong invites applications for a PhD-student position in paleoceanography, environmental oceanography or biogeochemistry.

The precise subject of the thesis will be decided upon agreement between the candidate and the supervisor and will depends on the candidate interests and strengths and the research interest of the group, which include paleoceanography, trace element in marine carbonates, nitrogen cycle (past and present) and marine pollution.

Suggested research topic include but are not limited to:

  • Natural variability of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation over the last 7 ka
  • Change in nutrient utilization in the Nordic Seas during the Holocene
  • Chronostratigraphy of the Arctic Ocean using U-series isotopes

We encourage applications from enthusiastic and self-motivated students who have demonstrated academic and research excellence in environmental or earth sciences, chemistry, or a related quantitative discipline. Applicants should have a 1stclass honours degree or a 2.1 honours degree plus Masters (or equivalent). Experience in geochemistry, paleoceanography and/or mass spectrometry is considered an asset.
