Remote Sensing Scientist for Hyperspectral Infrared Level-1 processing (VN18 67)

Darmstadt, Germany

Bring your knowledge and experience of remote sensing physics to provide scientific and technical expertise on measurements taken from our satellite based hyperspectral infrared sounders.

The Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic scientist or engineer to join our team of remote sensing experts and to assume responsibility for Hyperspectral Infrared Level-1 processing.

In this role you will contribute to the development of new and improved Level-1 data processing chains for the InfraRed Sounder (IRS) instrument on-board our MTG satellites, responding to the evolving needs of our user communities. You will be responsible for the prototyping and the operational implementation of the Level-1 processor. You will also support instrument recalibration and product reprocessing across all of EUMETSAT’s Hyperspectral IR sensors for climate monitoring. This is an opportunity to proactively work with our partners and operational user communities to define requirements for future satellite products and services.

You will bring your in-depth scientific knowledge of atmospheric sounding in the infrared domain and experience in processing Level-1 data. You will have been exposed to developing scientific application software, ideally in partnership with users groups and researchers.  With your strong analytical skills and an ability to synthesise complex information, you should be able to communicate scientific information clearly and concisely. You need to be a team player, with the capability to co-ordinate a number of project teams.

What we offer

EUMETSAT provides a collaborative, international environment with opportunities to establish a long career perspective. We offer a competitive salary and outstanding benefits. We offer the chance to work on exciting satellite programmes - both current and planned. You will play a leading role in the application of remote sensing science; making a difference to our user community and working with people who are experts in their field.
