Assistant Professor - Environmental Science, Policy, and Management - College of Natural Resources

The Department of Environmental Science, Policy, and Management (ESPM) in the College of Natural Resources at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor with an expected start date of July 1, 2019.
We seek rising leaders from diverse disciplines of relevance to Environmental Science, Policy, and Management, including, but not limited to, the natural, social, physical, biological, and environmental health sciences as well as the humanities. Candidates should demonstrate evidence of strong research productivity, potential for funding, and a commitment to excellence in teaching and research mentoring of undergraduates, graduate students, and post-docs. We are particularly interested in scholars with a track record of promoting diversity, equity and inclusion in the environmental field in the realms of research, teaching and/or service. ESPM is a multidisciplinary community of scholars and cooperative extension specialists from the biological, physical, and social sciences and the humanities who conduct research, teaching, and outreach to advance scientific understanding and develop solutions for the world's pressing environmental problems. To achieve this goal, ESPM recognizes that equity, inclusion, and diversity must be integrated with strategies to address the critical environmental challenges facing humanity, including climate change, food security, natural resource access and management, biodiversity, environmental health, land use decision-making, and maintaining sustainable living conditions. We are home to top-ranked graduate programs in environmental science, environmental studies and ecological/evolutionary biology with a vibrant mix of undergraduate majors. The successful applicant will be part of the University of California (UC) Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources' (ANR) Statewide Program and have access to the UC's diverse complement of field sites including UC Natural Reserves, ANR's research and extension centers, and UC Berkeley's Research Forests. In addition, Berkeley provides outstanding opportunities for intellectual engagement with colleagues in other campus units including the Goldman School of Public Policy, the Colleges of Environmental Design, Engineering and Chemistry, the Energy and Resources Group, the Law School, the School of Public Health, the Institute for International Studies, the Center for Race and Gender, the Institute for Social and Economic Change, the Haas Institute for a Fair and Inclusive Society, and the Departments of Integrative Biology, Plant and Microbial Biology, Political Science, Sociology, History, Economics, Agricultural and Resource Economics, Geography, and Ethnic Studies.
Minimum basic qualification: J.D., Ph.D. (or equivalent international degree), or enrolled in J.D., Ph.D., or equivalent international degree‐granting program at the time of application.
Preferred qualifications include: Ph.D., J.D., or equivalent international degree in a relevant environmental field such as (but not limited to) biology, conservation science, ecology, physical sciences, sociology, anthropology, history, environmental law, environmental policy, interdisciplinary environmental studies, environmental health science or geography; demonstrated evidence of outstanding scholarship within a relevant environmental discipline in the social, natural, physical, environmental health sciences, humanities or related fields; a dedication to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels; a demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in the environmental field; an interest in research translation and/or communicating with the scientific community and the broader public; a commitment to working in an inclusive and interdisciplinary environment and strong desire to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in ways that align with UC Berkeley's and ESPM's mission to meet the educational needs of California's diverse population.
