Postdoctoral Research Staff Member - Reactive Transport and Geochemistry Modeler

For more than 60 years, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has applied science and technology to make the world a safer place.

 

We have an opening for a postdoctoral researcher to study reactive transport and geochemistry to understand well integrity in geological carbon dioxide storage and other reservoir applications. You will develop numerical tools to model reactive geomaterials on pre-exascale computing platforms. This position is in the Atmospheric, Earth and Energy Division.

 

Essential Duties

- Conduct creative and independent research in reactive transport and geochemistry.

- Develop numerical algorithms to efficiently model these processes on pre-exascale computing platforms, with a focus on multiscale approaches.

- Analyze and interpret data from laboratory experiments and integrate it with the modeling studies.

- Publish programmatic reports and peer-review publications summarizing research findings.

- Present results at program meetings and conferences.

- Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

- Recent PhD in Geology, Geochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or other relevant field.

- Knowledge of geochemical modeling and reactive transport.

- Experience with code development.

- Ability to perform creative research in the applicant’s area of specialization.

- Proficient written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively in a diverse, multidisciplinary research team.

- Experience writing and presenting reports, publications, and proposals.

 

Desired Qualifications

- Experience with GPUs and threading.

 

Note: This is a two-year Postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of extension to a maximum of three years. Eligible candidates are recent PhDs within five years of the month of the degree award at time of hire date.
