FACULTY POSITION IN STRUCTURAL GEOLOGY & TECTONICS, OR QUANTITATIVE BASIN ANALYSIS, STRATIGRAPHY & SEDIMENTOLOGY
DEPARTMENT OF GEOSCIENCES

The Department of Geosciences (soon to be the Department of Earth, Energy, and Environment) at The University of Texas at Dallas is searching to fill a tenure-track faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor, in one of two broad fields. The areas of expertise are: structural geology/tectonics/geospatial analysis, or quantitative basin analysis/stratigraphy/sedimentology. The position is to be filled by August 2019 to start in the Fall 2019 semester.

Candidates for this position should have completed all requirements for a PhD by January 1, 2019, and are expected to have clearly demonstrated research interests and expertise in one of these two broad fields. Principal teaching requirements will include both undergraduate-level classes (e.g., structural geology or sedimentology/stratigraphy) and graduate level classes (e.g., tectonics, basin analysis, geospatial analysis, 3D seismic stratigraphy). A demonstrated ability to integrate a range of methods and data types is required, potentially including field-based observations, surface and subsurface investigations, incorporation of seismic and well data, and analytical or modeling approaches. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an internationally recognized research program and excel at teaching, mentoring, and service roles within the department, and should show strong potential (commensurate with experience) for securing external research funding.

Opportunities exist to build upon our collaborations with the energy, natural resources, and environmental sectors in areas that encompass exploration, characterization and monitoring, and fundamental Earth science research areas attractive for federal government grants (NSF, NASA, DOE, EPA, etc.). In addition, the successful candidate may play an important role in helping to establish the new Energy and Environment Science multidisciplinary MS program at UTD. The Department of Geosciences has strong undergraduate and graduate (MS and PhD) programs. UTD is a young and rapidly growing institution, ranked #16 in the world among universities less than 50 years old. It attracts very talented students (mean freshman SAT> 1250) with great diversity and is situated in a suburban area that is undergoing rapid growth.
