RESEARCH SCIENTIST POSITION– ATMOSPHERIC TRACE GASES

SCRIPPS INSTITUTION OF OCEANOGRAPHY, UCSD

Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO, http://sio.ucsd.edu/) at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) invites applications for a full-time Research Scientist position to assume a major scientific role in the central experimental laboratory of the Advanced Global Atmospheric Gases Experiment (AGAGE), an international collaborative research project (https://agage.mit.edu/) sponsored in the US by NASA. It is funded by extramural research grants at 75% and by SIO at 25% during the academic year, and by extramural grants during the summer.

We seek applicants with demonstrated records of research excellence in the area of experimental measurement and interpretation of trace gases in the global and regional atmosphere, especially those affecting anthropogenic climate change and stratospheric ozone depletion that are emphasized in AGAGE. We are interested in candidates who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence in research as well as service toward building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment. Research Scientists at SIO have the opportunity to obtain lecturer appointments in the SIO Department and to serve as graduate student advisors.

The position requires a PhD, or equivalent degree, in a relevant field at time of application and candidates should have a competitive record of publication, as well as evidence of the ability to conduct and fund an active research program consistent with career level. This appointment may be at the Associate or Full Research Scientist level and salary will depend on the experience of the successful applicant and will be based on the UCSD pay scales.

For full consideration, please apply by the April 22, 2019 deadline at:

SIO is a world-renowned center of marine research with approximately 200 principal investigators leading research programs on all aspects of earth, ocean, biological and atmospheric sciences. We are committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body.
