The College of Agriculture at Arkansas State University is pleased to announce a 24 month funded master’s level research assistantship beginning July 1st 2019. This position supports geospatial research in the Agricultural Systems Technology lab. The available degree options include either the MSA in Agriculture or the MS in Environmental Sciences. This assistantship is in cooperation with USDA-ARS, and focused on agro-environmental research in the Mississippi River Delta. Research includes the use of GIS, UAS, multi-spectral imagery, and LIDAR. Research problems relate to aquifer recharge/infiltration, sustainable surface water usage, precision farming, topographic modeling and multi-spectral vegetation index modeling. Applicants must have: proficiency with ArcGIS Desktop and Microsoft Excel, familiarity with image processing (satellite/aerial) and geodatabases, bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Earth/Environmental Science, Geography, or a related field (by July 1st of 2019), and be a citizen or permanent resident of the U.S…. Preferred candidates include veterans with field drone experience, holders of FAA remote pilot’s license, and/or experience with: Python scripting, ArcMap Model Builder, Microsoft Access and/or SQL.
