The Department of Astronomy at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach courses in Astronomy should an opening arise. Screening of applicants begins immediately and will continue as needed (including hiring for Summer Sessions). The number of positions varies from semester to semester, depending on the needs of the department. Appointments are for one semester, and may be renewable based on need, funding, and performance.

Teaching responsibilities: We are seeking outstanding lecturers who can teach one or more courses in the undergraduate Astronomy/Astrophysics curriculum. A listing of current course descriptions is available at: http://astro.berkeley.edu/courses/undergraduate

General duties: teaching responsibilities, holding office hours, developing syllabi, assignments, writing exams, supervising GSIs and maintaining course website. Other duties may be assigned by the Chair as necessary.

Basic qualifications: The minimum qualification required to be considered an applicant for the position is the completion of a Bachelor’s or equivalent international degree at the time of application.

Preferred qualifications: A PhD or equivalent degree requirements in Astronomy, Physics, Astrophysics, or related fields, by the start of the date of the job.

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience. Starting annual full-time salary is currently $54,738, prorated according to teaching workload (most lecturer positions are 33% time or lower, depending on duties). Some credit will be given to prior college-level teaching experience.
