The Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering at Marquette University invites PhD and Masters applicants to join Dr. Walter McDonald on a recently funded project to monitor air quality using drone-mounted sensors. The objective of the project is to monitor and model the spatial and temporal transport of two types of airborne contaminants in the urban environment – soot from vehicle fuel combustion and gaseous contaminants from wastewater treatment plants. The graduate research assistant will lead the effort to monitor air quality and will work in close collaboration with a research team across Environmental (Dr. Patrick McNamara) and Mechanical (Dr. Somesh Roy) Engineering to apply the data in air quality models. A preference will be given to candidates with a background in environmental monitoring.
We are seeking highly motivated individuals with the ability to work across disciplinary and institutional boundaries. In addition to the desired project-specific qualifications, the successful candidates will have a Bachelors or Masters degree in civil and environmental engineering or other related field, and excellent written and oral communication skills.
The position has an anticipated start date of Summer or Fall 2019. Interested candidates should send a statement of interest and a resume to Dr. Walter McDonald (walter.mcdonald@marquette.edu), as well as complete a graduate school application at http://www.marquette.edu/grad/future-apply.php/.
