The Department of Geological Sciences at the University of Manitoba invites applications for a full-time, 2-year term appointment at the rank of Instructor I in Geophysics. This position is to commence July 1, 2019. The minimum qualification is a M.Sc. degree in Geophysics. The responsibilities of the position are primarily in undergraduate teaching and service. Over the two-year appointment the successful applicant will be required to teach Introductory Geophysics, Exploration Seismology, Physics of the Earth: Seismology and Heat Flow, Applied Geophysics Field course, Geophysics Field course and other undergraduate courses as assigned. The candidate must have a track record of successful university teaching and familiarity with a range of geophysical equipment and software. Registration or eeligibility for registration, as a Professional Geoscientist in Manitoba would be advantageous.


The Department of Geological Sciences is home to 12 tenured and tenure-track faculty members in the Clayton H. Riddell Faculty of Environment, Earth, and Resources, and offers undergraduate and graduate programs in Geology and Geophysics. It has a well-established national and international research reputation with strengths in mineralogy, geochemistry, sedimentary geology, paleontology, geophysics, and environmental geosciences. The department has over $10 million of equipment housed in major, multi-user laboratories.
