These positions intersects the disciplines of carbon cycle science, spatial analysis, informatics, and emissions accounting.

Postdoctoral Scientist in Anthropogenic Carbon Emissions position #604320:

This postdoctoral position will perform research on quantification and analysis of fossil fuel CO2 emissions at fine space/time scales in the North American domain. Working with the “Vulcan” and “Hestia” emissions data products (vulcan.rc.nau.edu; hestia.rc.nau.edu), the postdoctoral scientist will expand, improve and extend the emissions data products and analyze the emissions in conjunction with satellite, ground-based monitoring and modeling. Projects are ongoing at both the national and urban scale.

Necessary skills: geospatial statistics, experience with GIS and spatial mapping/analysis, experience with R programming, strong numerical analysis ability.

Desired skills: carbon accounting/footprinting experience, experience using remote sensing products/software.

Postdoctoral Scientist in Urban Carbon Emissions position #604321:

This postdoctoral position will perform research on quantification and analysis of fossil fuel CO2 emissions at fine space/time scales in urban areas within the US and globally. Working with the “Hestia” emissions information system (hestia.rc.nau.edu), the postdoctoral scientist will expand, improve and extend the urban emissions and analyze the emissions in the context of climate change policy, economics, and measurement/monitoring systems.

Necessary skills: geospatial statistics, strong numerical analysis abilities, R/python programming.

Desired skills: carbon accounting/footprinting experience, GIS experience, policy/economics analysis experience.

Given the multidisciplinary nature of the research, a highly self-directed, creative and self-motivated individual is sought for each position. The positions are a fulltime appointment with an anticipated start date between 7/1/2019 and 11/1/2019. The appointment will be made initially for one year with possibility of extension for additional years. Post-Doctoral Scholars are hired on a contract basis, renewable each fiscal year for a maximum of 4 renewals (5 years) according to terms of the Arizona Board of Regents' Conditions of Post-Doctoral Service. Salary range for both positions is $45,000-$55,000 dependent on experience, with associated University benefits. “This position is not eligible for sponsorship, now or in the future.” Applicants should send a cover letter describing their research experience and interests, a curriculum vita, and arrange for three reference letters sent to: Prof. Kevin Gurney, kevin.gurney@nau.edu. Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must have received a PhD in a field related to position (eg. Informatics, GIS/Geography, Civil Engineering, Economics, Ecological/Environmental Sciences) from an accredited college or university. The applicant will be expected to publish peer-reviewed journal articles and work in a team environment, effectively communicating with a range of physical and social scientists.
