The Environmental Soil Physics Lab at University of Georgia is seeking a Ph.D. student to conduct research on understanding nutrient transport at the watershed scale. The candidate’s research focus would be on quantifying and predicting the impact of varying land-use-land-cover on water quality under a changing climate to create resources for evidence-informed policy making. The student will be engaged in developing multi-scale statistical models and working with process-based models in mixed land-use and physiographically varied watersheds in Georgia. The research involves working with remote sensing datasets, data mining and collecting data in the field. A background in hydrology, ecohydrology, environmental remote sensing or a related field is required. The candidate should have strong written and oral communication skills, experience in process based modeling or basic coding (MATLAB, IDL, R or Fortran) and be legally eligible and willing to a drive a vehicle in the U.S within the first few months of getting hired. The candidate should also be excited about working in a diverse interdisciplinary environment. Experience with data fusion and a track record of publications is desirable.
We offer a competitive graduate student salary. The position is available immediately until filled. The candidate is expected to start in Fall 2019 or Spring 2020.
