Applications are invited for one Ph.D. student position in the hydro-environment informatics research lab led by Dr. Roger (Ruo-Qian) Wang at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Rutgers University (www.whirl-lab.com). The research direction will be the integration of big data, artificial intelligence with numerical models for coastal flooding. The Ph.D. candidate will have opportunities to learn and develop novel data-driven analysis methods to analyze remote sensing and coastal flood models. The potential research projects will focus on data fusion and data assimilation of the emerging social media, Internet of Things, and remote sensing data. The positions are fully funded and open to both international and domestic students.

A master or bachelor’s degree in science, engineering or related fields is required. Priority will be given to candidates with a background in hydrodynamics, hydrology, numerical modeling, data science, and/or uncertainty quantification. Programming skills in Python, C++ or MATLAB are preferred. Motivated applicants with strong communication skill, especially experience in scientific writing and presentation are encouraged. Dr. Roger (Ruo-Qian) Wang is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Rutgers University. He has conducted Postdoctoral research in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley, and Mechanical Engineering and Tata Center for Research and Technology at MIT. He has obtained a Ph.D. in Environmental Fluid Mechanics at MIT.
