The United States Geological Survey (USGS) is recruiting a Director for the Geosciences and Environmental Change Science Center (GECSC) in Lakewood, Colorado. The GECSC conducts geologic mapping and integrated studies of the Earth’s geologic, hydrologic, and ecologic systems at local, regional, and continental scales, with an emphasis on understanding past, present, and potential future environmental, geologic, and land use change.  GECSC staff have expertise in bedrock, surficial, and 3d geologic mapping; geochronology and isotope geology; measurement, monitoring, and geospatial/statistical modeling of changes in past and contemporary climate, landscapes, and ecosystems; unmanned aerial systems; and applications development. GECSC scientists create products that have applications to a wide range of public policy concerns related to management of public lands.

Responsibilities include management of the GECSC in accordance with the basic principles and procedures of scientific research; management, motivation, and achievement of results through a subordinate staff; coordination of Center multidisciplinary functions; development and expansion of research projects; and effective communication and cooperation with a broad spectrum of USGS, Federal, State and local scientists and officials.
