The Department of Geoscience at the University of Wisconsin-Madison invites applications at the Assistant, Associate, or Senior Scientist level to fill the Director’s position in the Eugene Cameron Electron Microprobe Laboratory (http://www.geology.wisc.edu/~johnf/sx51.html). This is a full-time, institutionally-supported position with competitive salary. The lab houses SX51 and SX5FE electron microprobes, a Hitachi S3400 VP scanning electron microscope, and a lab manager to assist with SEM maintenance and operations. The lab serves as a hub for interdisciplinary scientific inquiry, providing hands-on training of students from disciplines across campus. Additional departmental resources include two electronics engineers and a staffed thin-section lab. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in Earth Sciences, Chemistry, Physics, Material Science, or related fields at time of appointment. Demonstrated ability and experience in the use of electron beam instruments for high-quality, quantitative analyses is required. Two or more years of daily hands-on management of an electron microprobe lab is preferred, as is demonstrated ability to pursue fundable research using electron microbeam instrumentation.
