Visiting Instructor of Geophysics- Temporary Faculty Position

About the Position:

Western Washington University invites applications for a three-quarter (nine month) visiting teaching position with a required start date of September 16, 2019. 

The successful candidate will teach courses in geophysics, earth materials, and introduction to geology, with the opportunity to develop upper division courses and mentor undergraduate student research. This appointment will include two quarters of Geol 352 (Introduction to Geophysics), two quarters of Geol 311 (Earth Materials), and 1-2 sections of Introduction to Geology or Physical Geology, an upper division course in the applicant’s specialty, or supervision of undergraduate research.

Required Qualifications:

• MS or PhD in an appropriate Earth Sciences field at time of appointment
• Ability to teach Introduction to Geophysics, Earth Materials, and Introduction to Geology
• Ability to work effectively with diverse students, faculty and staff, and commitment to cultivating learning environments that are equitable and inclusive of students with diverse social identities and backgrounds

Preferred Qualifications:

• College-level teaching experience
• Ability to teach an upper division course in the applicant’s specialty
