The Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Manitoba invites applications for a full-time tenured or tenure-track position at the Associate or Full Professor level in the area of Hydrology (Position 27724). The rank, tenure status and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position is envisioned to become the Manitoba Hydro Senior Research Chair in Hydrologic Modelling and Analysis. The anticipated start date is January 1, 2020 or soon thereafter.

The successful candidate: 1) must hold an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering and doctoral degree in Civil Engineering or a related field; 2) must be registered or eligible for registration as a member of Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba; 3) will be expected to develop and teach Civil Engineering courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels; 4) will be expected to establish an externally funded and sustainable research program, 5) will be expected to submit a proposal for an NSERC Alliance Grant to match the Manitoba Hydro research contribution of $125K/year plus in-kind contributions for five years; and 5) must possess excellent communication and leadership skills.

We are particularly interested in candidates who complement existing expertise in the Department and who have a demonstrated record of research and publications in the area of fundamental and applied hydrology. The candidate would be expected to develop a research program with scientific and industrial applications in hydrology to address water resource and related meteorological and climate issues, that are important to managing water resources with a focus on the Nelson-Churchill watershed. Expertise in one of the following areas is an asset: physically based hydrologic modelling and inflow forecasting, cold region hydrology, climate change impact analyses on short and long-term water supply, statistical and dynamical downscaling, and hydrometeorology.

The Water Resources Engineering Group constitutes a core portion of the Civil Engineering Department and has established collaborations both within the Department and Faculty and with external industry and other Canadian research networks. Its funding comes from NSERC, the Province of Manitoba, the City of Winnipeg, Manitoba Hydro, and other industries. The Water Resources Engineering Group has a state of the art Hydraulics Research and Testing Facility that includes recently upgraded teaching laboratories.

The Department of Civil Engineering (www.umanitoba.ca/civil) has twenty two faculty members, thirteen support staff, and approximately two hundred and seventy undergraduate and one hundred and sixty graduate students. Approximately thirty percent of faculty members and thirty percent of students at both the graduate and undergraduate level are female.
