A PhD student position is available in Prof. Garcia’s research group in the School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment (SSEBE) at Arizona State University (ASU) beginning in Spring or Fall 2020. The position is part of a collaborative project on the Transition Dynamics in Integrated Urban Water Systems with Co-PI’s Marty Anderies at ASU, Aaron Deslatte at University of Indiana, Elizabeth Koebele at UNR, and George Hornberger at Vanderbilt. The project is funded by the NSF program on Coupled Human-Natural Systems (award 1923880) and builds off pilot work funded by SESYNC. The PhD position in Civil Engineering will focus on detection and attribution of hydrological change, and also contribute to modeling and synthesis activities to assess the interaction of various drivers of transition.

A M.S. degree in hydrology, water resources, or civil engineering, or work experience in the field are preferred. The position will involve modeling, programming, statistical analysis, and collaboration with social scientists, and prior experience is desirable. The research assistantships come with a stipend, full tuition, and health insurance. Students from groups underrepresented in engineering are particularly encouraged to apply.
