Position Description:

There are up to four (4) funded graduate student positions (M.S./Ph.D.) in the Civil Engineering Department at Kansas State University working under the direction of Dr. Landon Marston. Students will work on cutting-edge research relating to applications of machine learning, mathematical programming, large-scale hydrologic and crop modeling, agent-based modeling, and the development of decision-support tools for sustainable management of water resources. In this position, each student’s research will contribute to new knowledge and solutions on how to better manage scarce water resources under increasing societal water demand. All positions will be supported by funded projects, which includes coverage of health insurance, tuition, and a bi-weekly stipend. Review of applicants will begin immediately and will continue until all positions are filled. Students can enroll either spring 2020 or fall 2020, though spring is preferred.

Required Qualifications:

  • B.S. and/or M.S. degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering or related fields.
  • Strong communication skills in oral and written English. 
  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in optimization and/or simulation modeling and machine learning.
  • Programming experience, preferably in Python, R, or MATLAB.
