The School of Environment and Sustainability (SENS) at the University of Saskatchewan invites applications from outstanding candidates for a full-time tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor as an Academic Programming Appointee (APA) in Community Energy and Environmental Planning.  This position has an emphasis on teaching (including course delivery, project/placement coordination, community engagement), with the possibility of some research activities. The appointment is anticipated to begin on July 1, 2020. SENS is embarking on exciting new programs, including a suite of professional Masters programs (12-month project/placement based Masters, with an optional 4-month co-operative placement), including water security, energy security, food security, sustainable environmental management, and biocultural conservation. The successful candidate will have established themselves as a lead instructor in the scholarship of community-engaged energy and environmental planning, particularly in relation to the water-energy-food nexus and sustainability development.

We seek a candidate who is recognized for teaching excellence at the graduate level. The successful candidate will teach in the area of community energy planning and make contributions to programming in water security, energy security, food security and their nexus and/or environmental management as their expertise allows. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in implementing collaborative research and project development with Indigenous, northern, remote or rural communities, especially in the area of energy systems and services.  The successful candidate will be expected to teach community energy planning, and ideally contribute to courses in project management, project finance, consultation and negotiations, permitting process and regulations.  Delivery of courses in other renewable resource sectors (e.g., water and food security) and their interconnections is desirable.  The position requires an ability to evaluate and report on program design, deliver courses, mentor professional Master’s students, and oversee projects and placements.

SENS is a premier site internationally for practicing use-inspired and community-engaged scholarship. The APA appointee will join a highly-engaged interdisciplinary faculty and student body working across natural sciences, engineering, social sciences and humanities. Our faculty are committed to engaging Indigenous peoples and knowledge in research and teaching and we emphasize hands-on experiential learning in our graduate programs. Our focus on community energy and environmental planning will advance our ability to connect with other units on campus, strengthen the policy relevance of our research, and contribute to the graduation of highly-qualified personnel who are poised to become highly-sought-after professional leaders and managers in their fields.
