The Department of Forest Ecosystems and Society at Oregon State University invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 9-month, Assistant Professor position in Forest Carbon Cycle Science. Forests strongly influence the climate system and carbon cycle across a range of scales. They also play an increasingly important role in potential climate change mitigation policy. Our challenge is to build the foundation for thriving social and ecological systems on a chaotic, increasingly crowded, and warming planet, and healthy forests are central to meeting this challenge. Therefore, we seek to fill a faculty position with research and teaching interests in the broad area of forest ecosystems and global change, with a particular focus on carbon cycling in these ecosystems. Potential research areas could include, e.g., forest carbon-climate feedbacks, biodiversity responses to global change, or carbon cycling through above and below-ground processes. Preferred candidates will have expertise in carbon cycle science and employ a variety of methods, including some combination of ecosystem-atmosphere flux and carbon cycle process measurements, satellite remote sensing, and process-based ecosystem modeling at a variety of spatial and temporal scales.
Teaching responsibilities will include three courses per year in the undergraduate Natural Resources BS program, the on-line graduate Forests and Climate Change certificate program, and the interdisciplinary core of the FES graduate program.
Participation in interdisciplinary research is encouraged with OSU faculty and students in the College of Forestry, the College of Earth, Oceanic, and Atmospheric Sciences, the College of Agricultural Sciences, and the Oregon Climate Change Research Institute. OSU is an AA/EOA Employer
