PhD student in remote sensing hydrology/hydrogeophysics

Possible projects the student will work on include:

• Monitoring changes in groundwater storage with remotely sensed measurements
• Modelling land deformation due to groundwater pumping/recharge
• Determining flow pathways in karst aquifers using electromagnetic data (such as those acquired with this)
• Relating biophysical modelling of water, plant and soil to remotely sensed measurements

Students with a strong academic record, as well as an interest in hydrology, are encouraged to apply. An undergraduate degree in the earth sciences, or a related field such as civil, environmental, or electrical engineering, as well as a strong quantitative background are required.  Some experience programming in python, MATLAB or R is recommended.  

Successful applicants will join the Department of Geosciences and Geological and Petroleum Engineering. The department has excellent resources for those interested in remote sensing of hydrologic processes, including state-of-the art geophysical equipment and computational resources. 

Missouri University of Science and Technology is located in Rolla, Missouri. Rolla is roughly 1.5 hours southwest of St. Louis, and is also home to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and a branch of the US Geological Survey. Rolla is within a short drive of several national forests, scenic rivers and extensive limestone caves.
