The Department of Geosciences at Florida Atlantic University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Marine or Environmental Geology with a start date of August 2020. Candidates with strong potential to conduct transformative externally funded research within their area of specialization and a research background that complements without duplicating the Department’s existing expertise are encouraged to apply.

 

The Assistant Professor is expected to contribute to FAU research focusing on Ocean Science and Engineering/Environmental Sciences outlined in the University’s 10-year strategic plan. FAU has a culture that fosters innovation and collaboration internally as well as with local, national, and international partners. We seek a colleague who will join in this culture by building collaborations both within FAU and with external research entities.

 

The Assistant Professor will supervise undergraduate research as well as M.S. and Ph.D. students and will fill existing curricular needs in the department by teaching degree required introductory level and upper-level undergraduate and graduate-level courses. They will also engage in service within the University, the profession, and the South Florida community.

 

Florida Atlantic University (www.fau.edu), with its main campus in Boca Raton and its six satellite campuses, is located between the Greater Everglades and world-famous beaches in south Florida.  Faculty in the Department of Geosciences are engaged in collaborative research projects with federal, state, and local agencies, such as the U.S. National Park Service, the U.S. Geological Survey, the South Florida Water Management District, and Palm Beach County’s Department of Environmental Resources Management.  Additionally, the Department of Geosciences has strong ties with the Environmental Science Program at FAU. Minimum Qualification: 

                         

Ph.D. in Geology or closely related field from an accredited institution required at the time of the hire.

 

Post-doctoral experience is preferred.
