Tenure-track Faculty Position in Structural Geology, Department of Earth Sciences, Memorial University of Newfoundland

The Department of Earth Sciences at Memorial University of Newfoundland invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in structural geology at the Assistant or Associate Professor level (ref: VPA-EASC-2019-001). We seek candidates with research expertise in field-based structural geology and the ability to deliver high-quality instruction of introductory and advanced structural geology and bedrock mapping courses. Early career researchers are encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in Earth Sciences or a related discipline, a record of peer-reviewed publications related to structural geology, and the capacity to develop and lead an externally funded research program with undergraduate and graduate students. Potential research collaborations with current Earth Sciences faculty in basin analysis, crustal geophysics, economic geology, geochemistry, geochronology, and petrology would be an asset.

The Department of Earth Sciences (www.mun.ca/earthsciences/) is one of the largest and most diverse in Canada. With approximately 25 faculty members, including the NSERC- Chevron IRC Chair in Reservoir Characterization and two Canada Research Chairs in Marine Geology and Boreal Biogeochemistry, over 15 staff members, and leading-edge teaching and research facilities, the Department is able to offer high quality undergraduate and graduate degree programs. The geological setting of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador also provides a natural research laboratory to study Archean to Proterozoic provinces of the Canadian Shield, Proterozoic to Paleozoic terranes of the Appalachian orogen, and the Mesozoic rift basins of the Grand Banks. Other research and teaching resources available at Memorial University include the Ocean Sciences Centre, Fisheries and Marine Institute, Bonne Bay Marine Station in Gros Morne National Park, Labrador Institute, and the Harlow Campus outside London, United Kingdom.
