The Department of Earth and Ocean Sciences at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (http://www.uncw.edu/earsci) announces an open position for a tenure track Assistant Professor in the area of Tropical Cyclone Climatology and Meteorology. We seek to hire a natural scientist focused on tropical storms using approaches such as modeling and forecasting storm events, analysis of historical and future storm characteristics, or ocean-based monitoring of tropical storms. Candidates must have completed a Ph.D. in a discipline related to the Atmospheric, Earth, or Ocean sciences. Preference will be given to candidates with experience analyzing Atlantic hurricanes.

The successful candidate for this position will: 1) be committed to exceptional teaching at the introductory level and in upper-level undergraduate and graduate courses in their specialty; 2) establish and maintain a vigorous, externally-funded research program that engages students; 3) support the established undergraduate and graduate degree programs within the Department of Earth and Ocean Sciences. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated interest in public outreach and risk communication, in addition to the required expertise in teaching, mentoring students, and conducting research.
