Postdoctoral Scholar: Climate Data Products for Impacts Analysis and Decision Support


The Earth and Environmental Systems Institute (EESI) at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar position focusing on the development of new climate data products targeted at the analysis of climate impacts and for use in decision support applications. The successful candidate will join a transdisciplinary research team working under awards from NSF, DOE, and NOAA, broadly focused on issues of climate risk management. The successful candidate will have a strong background in a field such as Earth system science (e.g., meteorology/atmospheric science, geosciences, oceanography), civil and environmental engineering, statistics, or applied mathematics by the time of hire. The Postdoctoral Scholar will have considerable freedom to collaboratively design the research within the scope of projects relevant to the team's current efforts. Possible example projects include empirical/statistical downscaling of global climate model output, development of high resolution gridded observational data products, development of metrics and tools for application-relevant characterization of climate data products, and uncertainty quantification in regional climate change projections. This position provides unique opportunities for research, education, outreach, decision support, and professional development, as well as mentoring by a team of experts in relevant disciplines. Evidence of completion of a Ph.D. by date of hire is required.
