The Savannah River National Laboratory is seeking versatile and highly motivated candidates to
provide technical leadership for the surface water modeling and assessment program within
the Atmospheric Technologies Group (ATG). The ATG conducts applied research and technology
development in meteorology and surface water hydrology at the U. S. Department of Energy's
Savannah River Site in South Carolina. ATG’s clients include the DOE and other U. S. government
agencies with interests in national security, international nuclear nonproliferation, and
emergency response.
The successful candidate will be expected to lead the ongoing development and application of
advanced in-house models for predicting hydrodynamic flows and the resulting fate and
transport of waterborne contaminants and their impacts on the environment. Applicable modeling
scales range from streams and rivers to dynamically driven lakes, bays and coastal estuaries.
Additional duties will include modeling to predict the impacts of floods following extreme rainfall
events or dam break scenarios. Job responsibilities also include possible collaboration with ATG atmospheric scientists on a range of modeling applications and analyses.
The applicant should possess a graduate degree in hydrology or a science or engineering discipline relevant to hydrodynamic modeling and 3-14 years pertinent experience.
Familiarity with the Environmental Protection Agency's WASP and BASINS modeling systems and
the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers HEC-RAS model is highly desirable. The successful candidate
must possess excellent written and oral communication skills, willing to present their work at
professional conferences and government forums, and comfortable advocating for surface water
modeling program capabilities within SRNL National Security Directorate work groups or other
potential U. S. government sponsors.
The SRNL is located on the U. S. Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site in South Carolina near
Augusta, GA, and is operated for DOE by Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, LLC. For more
