Job Details
The Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), California Institute of Technology invites applications for a Research Technologist in the Atmospheric Physics and Weather Group within the Science Division. In this position, you will be responsible for i) maintaining Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS) user documentation, ii) responding to AIRS user requests for help, iii) participating in the development of AIRS public outreach stories, and iv) leading the development of AIRS applications related to infectious disease, in particular influenza. You will work closely with the AIRS Project and support team.
This position requires the following qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Engineering, Math, Physics, Astronomy or related technical discipline.
- Familiarity with atmospheric sounders and their data products
- Familiarity with sounder retrieval methodology, algorithms and software
- Strong knowledge of the AIRS data and its product generation system
- Experience with the AIRS documentation and user outreach system
- Experience in the analysis of satellite and related in situ atmospheric data
- Strong knowledge of infectious diseases and their relation to atmospheric conditions
- Fluency with IDL, Matlab, Python or similar analysis tools
The following qualifications are preferred:
- Familiarity with the use of AIRS data for education and public outreach and news stories
- Demonstrated experience in related research as reflected in a publication record
- Excellent written and oral communications skills suitable for peer-reviewed publications and high-quality presentations
- Familiarity with potential customers of infectious disease AIRS applications
