Fully-funded PhD Positions in Ocean Climate Informatics

We are seeking for highly motivated PhD students, starting in fall semester in the year 2020. The new students will have an option to pursue a Ph.D. degree in Remote Sensing at the University of Valencia, and will have the opportunity to participate in the GenT-sponsored project on improving regional-scale projections of climate variability and change through data-informed decision making. The position has a special focus on understanding the ocean's role in the Earth's climate system under global climate change. The new students will be expected to conduct original research, present research findings in national or international conferences, and publish in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

The Image Processing Lab (IPL) is a multidisciplinary institute that gathers more than 60 faculty and researchers working in Earth observation and remote sensing data processing. Deadline: Review of applications will begin on February 15th, 2020 and continue until the positions are filled.
Salary: Based on UV scales. Employment contract covering the doctoral period (3 years), and includes social security benefits, medical care. Financial support for conferences and collaborations.

Preferred Education: Masters.

Qualifications:

1. A M.S. degree in a science or engineering discipline, such as physical oceanography, applied ocean science and engineering, climate sciences, or related applied field. A deserving candidate with a B.S. degree will also be considered for a combined M.S. and Ph.D. program.
2. A strong analytical and quantitative skills as demonstrated within academic transcripts and/or publication records.
3. Programing and statistical skills, and experience with ocean data analysis are required. Broad knowledge in machine learning and numerical modeling are an asset.
4. Proficiency in English (required) and Spanish (ideally).
