Job Details

The hurricane research group in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Indiana University Blooming is searching for a Postdoctoral Associate to conduct research in the stochastic dynamics and modelling of hurricanes. The Postdoctoral Associate is expected to possess good mathematical skill in fluid dynamics and nonlinear dynamical systems. Knowledge and/or experience with stochastic modeling and dynamics is desirable.

Indiana University runs a state-of-the-art computing center with a supercomputer Big Red II that possesses peak performance at the PetaFlops level as well as advanced data storage archive, providing a top-tier center for Earth system modeling and data analysis. As such, the Postdoctoral Associate will have opportunities to explore and conduct numerical experiments, using such a superb HPC infrastructure. S/he should be motivated and eager to communicate results at scientific meetings and publish in peer-reviewed journals.

The initial appointment for this position is 1 year, and can be extended to the second year upon successful performance and funding availability. Salary commensurate with experience. The expected start date is August 1, 2020, but is negotiable. The candidate will be jointly supervised by Dr. Chanh Kieu (Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences) and Dr. Wai-Tong Louis Fan (Department of Mathematics).
